How to identify a hydraulic hose and its fittings

Most of what we need is printed or stamped on the old assembly. Check the hose first, then each fitting, and send whatever you can read.

Hose size is the inside diameter. It is often printed along the hose as a dash number: -8 means 8/16 inch, or 1/2 inch. Fittings are harder to judge by eye, which is why a close-up of each end helps.

Hose and fitting questions

How do I find my hydraulic hose size?

Look for the printing along the hose. The size is the inside diameter, often shown as a dash number in sixteenths of an inch, so -6 is 3/8 inch and -8 is 1/2 inch. If the printing is worn away, send a clear photo of the hose end and the fittings and we’ll help confirm the size.

What do you need to quote a replacement hose?

The inside diameter, the length of the old assembly, the working pressure, the fluid and the fitting on each end. Photos can help when markings are worn off or you’re not sure which part you have. If you’re not sure how to measure the length, send a photo of the assembly beside a tape measure.

Can you identify a fitting from a photo?

Clear photos of each end help us narrow it down. We’ll confirm the thread and sealing style with you before building or quoting the assembly, so you’re not left guessing.

What if I only have a part number?

Enter it in the end fittings and markings box. A part number gives us a place to start. Add photos or measurements if you can.
